Step1: Download the Dell Repository Manager and Systems Build and Update Utility
Step2: Install and Configure Dell Repository Manager.
Click Application, Click Settings, Click Plug-in Update. Select all, Click Download.
Once downloaded you will see plug-in download completed. There will be two files in C:UsersUser NameAppDataLocalRepositoryManagerPayloads folder.
On the Welcome Page, Sync Repository.
Step3: Create Repository
Click Create a New Repository. On the inventory page, Type the Name of the repository, Click Next
Click Source Repository, Click Next. Select Default Click next again.
On the Select Brand page, Select the brand of Dell Server you have. Click Next
On the OS Selection page, Click Next
On the model selection page, select the model you have, click Next
Select only include most recent updates and bundle, Click Next.
Click Select Components, Select all model, select all components.Click Ok.
Click Next. Click Finish.
Step4: Export Repository to ISO
Select all from the newly created repository. Click Export. Click Next
Select Export to SUU, Select Export SUU to ISO
Click Next, Select the location where you would like to save SuuImage.iso file. Click Next. SUU start downloading. It will take very long time to download and create ISO.
Once done you will see download is 100% completed and there is a iso file saved in desired location.
Step5: Upgrade Firmware
Log on to the server using iDRAC. Click Setup. Select First boot as virtual CD/ISO
From Console/Media, Lunch virtual console
Hover your mouse in the middle of the console, Click Virtual Media
Add bootable dell utility, you have downloaded at step1.
At this stage, log on to server reboot. If it is an ESXi . Put the server in Maintenance mode, then restart. If Hyper-v Host, migrate virtual machine and restart. Once booted, Select Language, Accept EULA.
On the Next, Click Firmware Upgrade. DONT CLICK CONTINUE.
Now mount SUU ISO, Just un-map bootable ISO. Click Add Image, Browse location of SuuImage.ISO. Click Map.
When you un-map, you will be prompted with this warning. Click yes.
Now Click Continue
you will see the following warning, Click Ok
re-map SUU iso and Click Continue again. System Inventory will be completed at this stage.
Click Enable System Set Update, Click System Build and Update utility Home, Wait for while. It takes few minutes.
Click Apply/Export Configuration
Click Apply/Export
At this stage you will see 5% completed.
few minutes later you will lose contact with virtual console
System will reboot and come back alive.
Step6: Test System.
- RDP to the server if it’s a windows server.
- Check TCP/IP configuration
- Check Device Manager
- Check Disk Management
- For ESXi, Click Configuration, Click Networking, Licenses, DNS, etc
